The Event
Beans (phaseolus) are the most important legumes of the world – and probably the most diverse and beautiful, within the family of pulses. They crawl and climb, some stand alone. Their butterfly shaped flowers come in all colors. Their seeds are shining when dried and are a major source of protein. Beans originate from the Americas and are grown around the world, feeding not only humans and animals but also nurturing the soil with nitrogen.
At the occasion of World Pulses Day 2022, the Global Bean Project explored bean diversity.
Participants sent us a picture of their favorite beans (seed or flower). Find all entries in the Global Bean Gallery.
Don’t hesitate to send your bean pictures to or to tag @the.global.bean with hashtag #globalbean on instagram!
